نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ
The widely recited duʼa for Suhoor
نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غَدٍ عَنْ أَدَاءِ فَرْضِ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ هذِهِ السَّنَةِ لِلّهِ تَعَالَى
Nawaitu ṣawma ghādin ʿan adāʼi farḍi shahri Ramaḍāna hādhihi al-sanati lillāhi taʿalā
“I intend to fast tomorrow to fulfil the obligation of the month of Ramadan this year for the sake of Allah the Exalted.”
Reflection
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever does not make the intention to fast before Fajr, there is no fast for him.” Niyyah (intention) is made in the heart — this duʼa is a verbal expression of that intention, helping you begin the day with conscious devotion.
When to Recite
Recite at Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) before Imsak time to set your intention for the day’s fast.
